| New Journal |
[02 Apr 2006|12:48pm] |
In an effort to consolidate all my internets and intraweb usage under the same user name, I made a new journal, rallywgn. Note the excellent theme centered around, you guessed it, my Rally Wagon. The background and friends only pics were taken at Deal's Gap, Tennessee/North Carolina ("The Tail of the Dragon", for the uninitiated), one of my favorite places in the world. randallisgod and vr4rob, we have to go this summer. Maybe I'll have my suspension realigned and some lengthened exhaust hangers by then. And other goodies...
I think I friended everyone. Comment and add to get friended otherwise. This one's not going anywhere, and I plan to go back and start tagging some memories. Just no more updates for the foreseeable future.

I have quite a few happys. I hope this works.
In other news, Ravi Coltrane tonight at Snug Harbor (duh) on Frenchmen Street. That's John Coltrane's son, for those that don't know. Yay for jazz, cognac, and cigarettes. Such a good combination.

What does it mean to ride "Cobaine" in a car?
The seat behind shotgun.
hahahaha.
oh, and how crazy is this? my NCAA bracket is first in my pool thanks to LSU, and I'm 16th at Tulane on Facebook. Maybe I should do this sports betting thing more often.
everybody should look up Astral Project. Saw their bassist and drummer play last night at Snug Harbor, and it was maybe the greatest musical experience of my life, including LCD and NIN. The drummer and 3 other guys are playing on Wednesday, so I'll definitely be there.
people need to come visit and go to jazz clubs with me. they're about the most fun thing I've done in my life.

wow, I'm two decades old. I feel like an old man, especially since all these youngins I hang out with here keep calling me one. :P
seriously though, thanks to everybody for making it a great birthday. We went out to Hana for the sushi part of sushi and champagne thursday, then came back to the dorm for the other half of it and some chocolate chip cookie cake that Mom UPSed to me. I had a drunken "He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and a ziggy zaggy done for me at midnight to start my birthday, an opah/kanpai done for me at the japanese place (thanks to thegalallama. ^_^), and happy birthday and a champagne toast done over the cookie cake. Sorry mrwaddles wasn't in the best condition to continue the festivities after the previous night, but I'll forgive him and let him defer until this weekend. :D
On a related note, I think my "chestal section," as 'ole Dane would put it, is sore from Joey a.k.a. "Pacman" hugs. Remind me never to get in a fight with him.
Anyway, thanks again guys. It was the friends that made it awesome.

There is one person in every group of friends that nobody fucking likes. You basically keep them there to hate their guts. When that person is not around the rest of your little basecamp, your hobby is cutting that person down. Example: Karen is always a douchebag. Every group has a Karen, and she is ALWAYS a bag of douche. And when she's not around, you just look at each other and go, "God, Karen, she's such a douchebag." Until she walks up and then you're like, "Hey, what's up Kar? Kaaaar, what's up Kar?"
It's so true, hence, funny.

I feel rather redonkulous (Gala, sp?) for not mentioning these. Someone please ridicule me. Blame the cognac and hookah I suppose.
books: candide, a clockwork orange, everything is illuminated, slaughterhouse five movies: a clockwork orange, lost in translation, requiem for a dream
Quote from last night while I was cleaning my pipes:
"I feel like the use of pipe cleaners to clean pipes is one of the most enlightening things I've heard in a while." -Travis "Mandelbaum" Mandel
Since everybody else has mentioned it, I will say that I thought V for Vendetta was incredible. So was the frozen Jack and Coke I got at the movie theater. <3 New Orleans. I'm really excited about A Scanner Darkly though. The preview looks awesome, and I hear there will be some Thom Yorke solo music on the soundtrack, along with M83's Teen Angst, so that makes me happy.
I don't want to do my economics homework, but I forgot about the last one and got a zero on it, so I guess I better do it. Ugh, exam on Thursday too. Hopefully Rachel will make me study with her, otherwise I might forget about that too. The complete boredom I feel in this class is yet another reason for me not to major in International Relations (two more econ classes required) and try linguistics. I have an appointment with the department head on Friday, so we'll see how that goes.

| Hookah and Jazz pwn me |

So I think I've found my favorite place in the world... Frenchman Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. The last two nights I've hit up Hookah Cafe for, well, some hookah, and Snub Harbor for some live jazz. Ellis Marsalis played Friday, and some random trio played for free tonight. Really chill places to get some expensive drinks but take a break from the mass drunkenness that is But2 on some nights. Make that most nights. (Every night?) I am now a big cognac fan.
Anyway, thanks to Chris ( mrwaddles ), Gala ( thegalallama ), and Anne for joining me tonight. 'Twas mui excellentè. We're comtemplating starting a jazz band if we can convince Gala that she WILL learn to play jazz style clarinet or face the consequences, which will be almost as crazy as Chris's grandmother's face. As it stands, I'm going to try to find a used trombone and some sheet music to buy tomorrow.
On a semi-related note, I'm going to look into changing my major to linguistics and go for a music minor. Been thinking about it for a few weeks, and it just seems like a good idea right now. I'll probably change my mind again, but that's how this major thing works I guess.

Yay! New remix album out today, only available through digital download sites like iTunes. Been listening to it; good stuff. Glad to finally have a copy of Slowdive, which they played at the concert Tertiary and I went to. I really like the Disco Infiltrator remixes. Hell, I really like the whole album.

[06 Mar 2006|12:36pm] |
So I was Bruffing today with a random girl, a senior. We were talking and this guy walks over that she apparently knew. She was like, "This is my friend Corey." When he heard I lived on But 2, he was like, "Oh, I heard you guys went on an $800 alcohol run the other day." I was like, "Yeah, that was me that drove and bought it." He was like, "You should set up a liquor store in your room." When he left, she told me he is the area residence director for Phelps Hall.
I love Tulane.

Sean fixed the noise-gina for me, so those two are out. Now we're just left with wasted opportunities.

you can now facebook people in high school. since Dane Cook and I are both like Nostradamus in predicting that we are late before looking at the clock, I'm going to go ahead and make a prediction.
society is about to collapse. the massive amount of friend requests that are about to pour out of high schoolers and the college class of 2009 will overload even the best routers cisco, juno, level3, big ip, etc. have to throw at us, and the internet will crash. commerce will come to a halt, wall street will crash, nuclear missiles will be launched, and christopher reeve will walk again (yes, I realize this will be more like lazarus than the crippled man, so I could have picked any dead guy, but I chose christopher reeve damnit!).
just hope they don't let us join the same groups. the horror, the horror!
look for more details in the next issue of Weekly World News.

I had my first apprentice slot with my WTUL DJ last night. Pretty cool shit. I do think the "progressive" thing might get on my nerves a little bit, but they have plenty of music that I like, including DFA stuff (LCD, Juan Maclean, Black Dice, Rapture, etc.), and lots of cool old vinyl. And as long as you meet programming requirements and it's not too popular, it's possible to bring music in. The coolest part though is bringing music out. I plan to take my laptop with me every time I go and leave it constantly ripping CDs.
So that's what I did from 10-12pm last night. When I got back, I decided it would be a great idea to stay up and watch Donnie Darko again (4-5th time? I can't remember) after a little preparation of the mind to experience crazy shit like that movie. So I ended up missing my 8am class. Two days in a row now I've overslept. I'm turning into such a slacker.

so the frat thing didn't work out. I ended up just staying in with the girl I was supposed to go to the date party with (Kelsey). which means, no bid. I still think it would have been fun, but part of me is glad I won't have to commit time to pledging considering I'm going to be doing shit with WTUL for the next few months to learn my DJ and tech director stuff.

So this sounds weird. I'm seriously considering pledging Fiji here if I can get a bid, which I'm pretty sure I can. Been to most of their rush parties and had hella good times. They seem like good guys (as in not typical icky frat boys), their dues are relatively cheap, and they give automatic scholarships if you keep a GPA that I will be keeping. And since they're new on campus, they are applying for a charter in April, which means I would be a charter member. Taking Kelsey to their date party tonight, so I'll decide after that. Bid party is tomorrow. O.O

WASHINGTON – Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a man during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, his spokeswoman said Sunday.
Harry Whittington, 78, was “alert and doing fine” after Cheney sprayed him with shotgun pellets on Saturday while the two were hunting at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.
“The vice president didn't see him,” she continued. “The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by god, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good.”
So he's finally taking the gun into his own hands after getting other people to murder for him all these years.
